Contest! Hair fix: John Frieda Full Repair

May06

John Frieda’s root to ends solution for colour treated and damaged hair comes in the form of 6 fabulous new products. My favorite from this line is the Full Repair Touch-up Flyaway Tamer. It comes in a mascara-like applicator and is applied to the hair to (as the name says) tame flyaways. Perfect for the little curly hairs on the side and baby hairs along the hairline.

I loved this flyaway tamer so much that I want to give you the chance to win one for yourself. Contest details at the-dressingroom.ca

Style: Thomas Sabo F/W collection: Seduction

Dec10

This trendy German brand has been in Canada for only a few years yet it seems to be keeping quite a buzz with jewelry addicts. Currently, the only retail locations in the country reside in Quebec but you can shop these exquisite pieces online or select boutiques.

The Seduction collection was crafted after the Adam and Eve story. For those who are unfamiliar with the biblical story… The serpent temps Eve to eat the apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (against the Almighty’s wishes) and her and Adam are sentenced to a life of hard work and pain.

The pieces in Thomas Sabo’s collection are alluring and elegantly designed. They have mass appeal without being overly trendy. While the apple is a very nice touch, we’re mesmerized by the snake motifs.

Serpent ring, $269.00 CDN (Adding this to our Christmas wish list!)

Barbie Wish List

Dec06

She's still at the top of our list. After celebrating her 50th birthday in March this year, we just can't get enough of this fashion (& beauty) icon. Barbie has it all and we want a piece of it!

We're crushing on these delicious products from Cake Beauty....

‘Gotta Hand it to Her’ velveteen hand creme ($20) -

Sooth those dry winter hands with a hand cream that's packed with "decadent shea and mango butters, whole milk and marshmallow extract." With a hint of Barbie's signature scent - lemon vanilla cake - this cream is divine! And the packaging is adorable.

‘Solid Scentsability’ solid parfum ($20) -

This pink shimmery solid is completely addictive. Cake Beauty describes the scent as "toasted vanilla, sweet sugar, caramel & fresh cream."  Doesn't it sound delicious?! But trust me, it smells a million times better than it tastes. Don't judge, I had to try it.

P&G Beauty Awards

Nov15

For the first time in Canadian Beauty history, Procter & Gamble held the first P&G Beauty Awards, celebrating and recognizing talented Canadian Fashion and Beauty Writers, Editors, Photographers and Artists.

The P&G Beauty Awards were hosted by the lovely Nina Vardalos (Winnipeg represent!). Yours truly was there to enjoy the cocktails and celebrate all the wonderful and talented people in the industry.

The event was full of glitz, glamour and beautiful people. But it wasn’t without its glitches from the presenters. One female presenter felt the need to make mention of her dress might be too revealing, which is bound to happen when your dress barely covers your butt. All in the name of fashion, of course.

Congratulations to all the incredible finalists and winners!
Félicitations à touts les gagnants!

Hair Affair

Nov09

I’m working on an article about hair colour for vervegirl.com and was brainstorming ideas a few weeks ago about what company I wanted to profile. A lot of research and a salon visit are a must. I’ve never had my hair done professionally with Joico products and decided I wanted to find out more about the brand and experience it personally.

I was told Tony was the man to see. So to Magnattude Hair Studio I went. Far, far away from my comfort zone of uptown, I ventured to the quaint Scarborough salon. I was greeted with a warm welcome from the owner (and my man for the next few hours) – Tony. He told me not to worry as he saw the red patched began to take over my neck as soon as I sat down in his chair – Salon visits always make me nervous, I’m sure you can understand.

Time flew by and the 3-hour visit came to a close with more than enough information to write my colour story. And I knew it right then that I had found my new favorite salon (even if it does take me 45 minutes to get to).

The lengths we will go to look good.
